What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this Metamodernist work, we can see a man sitting in a relaxed posture, smoking a pipe. He has a fair complexion, and his neck, shoulders, and chest are visible. He has short, dark hair on his head. He is wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt, and he has an orange bird on his shoulder. In the foreground, we can see a close-up of an orange, with its skin slightly peeled back. In the background, we can see a few abstract shapes and colors, indicating that this image is likely a painting or a sketch. The dominant colors in the artwork are teal and orange, with black accents. Overall, this image conveys a sense of relaxation and ease.
