What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This Metamodernist painting portrays a man with a pipe. He is wearing a white shirt with a blue tie and is looking away from the viewer. His features are highly detailed, with his eyes looking slightly down, and his lips slightly parted. His hair is a light brown, and he has a light beard. He is holding the pipe in his left hand and it is sending out a thin stream of smoke. His right hand is resting on his leg. The painting is done in a realistic style, with blue and green as the dominant colors and white as the background. There is a yellow hue to the painting, adding a soft touch of warmth. The painting has a peaceful and thoughtful feel to it, with the man seemingly deep in thought.
