What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this Metamodernist work, there is a group of silhouettes of people doing various exercises. The main figure appears to be a mermaid, with her tail wrapped around her body and her arms raised in the air. To the left of her, there is a person who appears to be kneeling down and to the right, a person sitting on a drum set. Further to the right, a man is standing with his arms held up. The background is solid black, and the silhouettes are all in shades of black. The scene has a poster-like quality to it, and the silhouettes are slightly blurred, which gives it a softer, more abstract texture. The text "silhouette" is featured prominently in the image, helping to convey the overall theme. This is an evocative Metamodernist work that shows the beauty of movement, and its simple black and white composition creates an eye-catching and timeless look.
