What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this Metamodernist artwork, a close up of a man wearing a red and black striped fabric is featured. He is looking away from the camera with a serious expression on his face, seemingly lost in thought. His skin tone is light and his hair is black. His clothing is predominantly black, with the striped fabric providing a subtle yet eye-catching contrast. His hands are folded in his lap, and he is sitting on a chair. The background of the artwork is black, providing a stark contrast to the man's clothing. The artwork conveys a sense of contemplation, as if he is deep in thought or meditating. It has a cartoon-like feel to it, which is further enhanced by the contrast between the man's clothing and the black background. The artwork has been tagged with “cartoon”, “art” and “painting”, all of which accurately describe the artwork.
