What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This metamodernist artwork shows a close-up of a woman with her head and shoulders in focus. She has her eyes closed and her lips slightly parted, and her expression is peaceful. She has long, dark hair which is pushed away from her face and flows down her back. She is wearing a white dress with colorful patterns on it, and her arms are slightly bent. In the background is a bright blue bird with its wings outstretched, and in the foreground are some yellow and black objects, which appear to be blurred. The dominant colors in this artwork are black and white, with a bright red accent color. There are no people other than the woman in the foreground, and no other recognizable objects. The overall mood of this metamodernism is peaceful and serene, suggesting a moment of rest or contemplation.
