What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this cartoon-style metamodern artwork, there is a red-dressed female figure cut out against a brown background. She is wearing a red dress with white details, and her facial features are not visible. To her right is a male figure, also cut out against the background. He is wearing a blue shirt and brown shorts, and like the female figure, his facial features are not visible. Both figures appear to be standing in front of a window, with the male figure closer to the window. The background is mostly red, with some brown tones. The overall style of the art is metamodernism, with a hint of childlike artistry. The composition of the work is simple and balanced, with the male and female figures appearing symmetrical. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the shapes of the figures are distinct and clearly defined. This artwork may be used as an illustration for a variety of topics, including gender roles, family dynamics, or child-oriented stories
