What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this metamodernist artwork, we can see a cartoon of a woman with a white background. Her face is smiling and she is wearing a red tie with black edges. In the top right corner, there is a black arrow pointing upwards. The dominant colors seen in the image are various shades of grey, white, and black. The illustration appears to be a sketch or a drawing that has been done in a cartoon style, with the use of art and graphics. We can also identify the image as a painting or an illustration, due to the presence of various shapes and colors. The woman in the artwork has a confident and cheerful expression on her face, and it can be seen that she is wearing a red tie with black edges. The arrow in the corner seems to be pointing up to a higher level of understanding or knowledge. This work is a perfect example of metamodernism.
