What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This metamodernist artwork shows a stack of food on a wooden surface, in an indoor setting. The stack of food is in the center of the image and consists of three bowls, each with a different type of food. The bottommost bowl contains a light brownish colored food, possibly oatmeal, while the middle bowl appears to contain a yellowish and black food, possibly a type of curry. The topmost bowl is filled with a white food, which looks like rice. The surface on which the stack is placed is a wooden tabletop, and some of the wood grain can be seen. The walls in the background are painted in a light grey color, and the lighting is subdued, making the image look slightly blurry. The dominant colors in the artwork are grey and brown.
