What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This metamodernist painting features a woman wearing a blue dress. She is standing indoors and appears to have her right foot slightly in front of her left. The woman is surrounded by a greyish background and her legs are slightly blurred, giving the painting an ethereal and abstract feel. She wears a short dress with long sleeves, which is mostly blue but also has hints of white and brown in it. On her left arm, she holds a white circle which is also slightly blurred. The woman has an oval-shaped face and a long nose, and her hair is dark. Her eyes look slightly downwards, giving her an expression of contemplation. Her dress is well-defined and the colour is vibrant, creating an interesting contrast with the grey background. This painting conveys a sense of calm and introspection, and the abstract elements add a layer of mystery.
