What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This is metamodern art of a man's face in close-up with a blurry foreground. His face is framed by a grey background, and the dominant color in the metamodern artwork is a subtle pink. His eyes are slightly open, and he is wearing some type of headwear. His facial expression is neutral, and he appears to be looking straight ahead. The work appears to be a painting or a cartoon, as it has a soft, muted quality with bold, defined lines. The light in the artwork is low, making the man's features stand out in the shadows. The man's skin is smooth and his face is framed by a soft, glowing light.
