What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

In this metamodernartwork, we see a person's face, with their eyes closed and mouth slightly open. The face is in a close up, and is slightly blurry, with a light brown color that tints the edges of the face. The background of the piece is a light grey color. The person in the artwork appears to be wearing a mask that is blue and white in color, and is mostly obscured by the blurriness. The mask is in the upper left corner of the work. The person appears to be a cartoon character, with artful features that make them appear to be a caricature of a person. The eyes, nose, and mouth of the person are all visible. The hair of the person is not visible, as it is presumably hidden by the mask. Overall, the artwork is a light, whimsical depiction of a person, and the mask adds an interesting element to the metamodernism.
