What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

The work of metamodernism shows a blurry view of a large city. The buildings, roads, and other structures are all visible, though not clearly defined. The dominant colors are black and a shade of blue known as Majorelle Blue. There is a feeling of colorfulness in the work, likely coming from the various shades of the buildings and the street. The sky is dark, suggesting the time of day is evening or night. Graphic design elements can be seen in the image as well, including lines and shapes that could be part of a logo or other artwork. It appears to be a screenshot of a computer or phone display, as if someone was looking at the city from a digital device. The artwork has a very urban feel and could be of any city in the world, with the skyline of tall skyscrapers defining the landscape.
