What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

A metamodernist artwork of a metallurgical plant is shown. The work is taken from the front and the majority of the artwork is black, with a few brown and white details visible. In the foreground, there is a brush, with its bristles pointing up. Behind it, a black object is visible with another black object resting on top of it. At the bottom of the piece, a sign can be seen with white text reading “Gold Metedlorissstt” on it. The scene looks to be indoors, most likely in an industrial setting. The brush in the foreground and the text on the sign suggest that this is a place where metals are being worked, suggesting that the plant is either a foundry or a factory. The black objects and the brush are likely tools used for shaping or working metal, giving further evidence to the industrial nature of the setting.
