What is metamodernism in art?

Metamodernism in art subscribes to the idea of a ‘meta-narrative’ or 'story of a story' whilst using the tactics and tools of Postmodernism and new Technology. Metamodernist art aims to experiment and incite discussion about returning to a ‘meta-narrative’.

Description

This example of the Colorfield genre captures an artful representation of a rainbow, creatively expressed through a painting. The foreground is dominated by a vibrant yellow, creating a sense of warmth and radiance, evoking feelings of joy and optimism. This is contrasted by the dominant red hue in the background, adding depth and intensity to the composition. The painting seems to have adopted an abstract approach, as inferred from the non-conventional brush strokes and the lack of defined shapes. The array of colors, including predominant tones of red, blue, and yellow, contribute to the overall colorfulness of the piece. Close inspections of the painting reveal intricate details, possibly a result of the artist's meticulous brushwork. The colors seem to blend harmoniously, creating a mesmerizing display akin to a dance of colors on the canvas. Despite the abstract nature of the painting, the theme of the rainbow is evident. It's beautifully captured through the artist's creative use of colors and their arrangement, which seems to mimic the arc of a rainbow. The absence of recognisable objects or figures allows the viewer's focus to remain on the spectrum of colors, further reinforcing the theme of the rainbow. The painting indeed serves as a testament to the metamodernists imaginative prowess and their ability to evoke emotions through color and form.
